Requirements

TopView has few requirements beyond the chosen data source.

Data Source

  • TopView OPC/SCADA
    • OPC Classic (DCOM-based OPC): DA/HDA Servers: OPC Data Access (DA) 2.05 or later or OPC Historical Data Access (HDA) version 1.1 or later.
    • OPC UA (Unified Architecture) Servers: OPC UA Specification version 1.04 or later, Data Access (DA)
  • TopView OPC A&E (TopView Events)
    OPC Alarms and Events Servers: OPC A&E 1.1
  • TopView PI
    • PISDK: 1.3.6.361 or later on the TopView computer.
      • 32 bit PISDK for TopView version 6.37 and earlier
      • 32 and 64 bit PISDK for TopView version 7.0 and later
    • AFSDK: v 2.8.6.7801 (PI AF Client 2016-R2-SP1) or later
  • TopView Canary Labs
    Canary Labs Enterprise Historian v9.7 or later
    Note: if you are using a 64-bit OS, you must install the 64-bit version of the Canary Labs Historian
  • TopView SQL
    ODBC or OLEDB Databases. May require ODBC driver or OLEDB Provider from database vendor.

    • 32 bit drivers for TopView version 6.37 and earlier
    • 64 bit drivers for TopView version 7.0 and later
  • TopView PerfMon
    No special requirements.

    TopView requires the Microsoft .Net Framework and provides this with the installation if it is not already present. The following minimum versions are required:

    • TopView 7.1 and later: .Net Framework 4.8
    • TopView 6.33-7.0: .Net Framework 4.7.2
    • TopView 6.29-6.32: .Net Framework 4.6.1
    • TopView 6.25-6.28: .Net Framework 4.6.1 and 3.5 SP1
    • TopView 6.12-6.24: .Net Framework 4.0 and 3.5 SP1
    • TopView 6.8-6.11: .Net Framework 3.5 SP1
    • TopView 6.0-6.7: .Net Framework 2.0
  • CPU
    Any current CPU. TopView can take advantage of multi-core CPUs.
  • Disk
    10GB free disk space recommended. This is much more than typically used by TopView, but it is quite small considering the size of today’s hard drives.
    TopView log files will accumulate over time but can be automatically purged.
  • Memory
    Each running TopView Engine (configuration) will typically use 20-200 MB memory.
    TopView 7.0 and later: additional 30-50 MB memory per Engine and Softphone.
    We recommended 500MB of free RAM before TopView is running, plus 200MB per additional running TopView Engine.
  • SQL Server (optional)
    SQL Server 2000 or later for optional alarm and snapshot logging.
